  • Dr. Jeff Wittman

Dr. Jeff Wittman opened Sierra Veterinary Care in 1994, following his dream of owning and operating his own small animal hospital.  Dr. Jeff grew up in the Sonora area, attended Sonora High School and graduated as valedictorian before being selected as œRegents Scholar and going on to UC Davis, majoring in animal physiology.  He then attended and graduated from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1989 and was again awarded the prestigious honor of Regents Scholar.  Dr. Wittman also was SCAVMA president and served on the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine Strategic Planning Commission.

Although Dr. Jeff has a background in both large and small animal medicine, his passion for small animal medicine became his focus and pursuit.  As well as running a successful practice, he has special interests in orthopedic surgery, dentistry and oral surgery.  He has also completed a fellowship at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in the area of ultrasonography.

Dr. Jeff currently co-owns the practice with his wife, Debbie, and they have two school-age children still at home on the "Wittman Farm".  Dr. Jeff serves on the local school boards and various other committees in the community.  He enjoys watching his children participate in the local 4-H clubs where he was once a member himself.

  • Dr. Amanda Taylor

Dr. Amanda Taylor grew up in the San Francisco Bay area and attended UC San Diego for her undergraduate studies. Though animals had always played an important role her life, she initially chose a decidedly non-veterinary career path as a Political Science major. Following an epiphany near the end of her studies, Dr. Taylor changed course and spent time taking science classes and gaining experience in the veterinary field, including 2 years working as a veterinary assistant in Calaveras County. Following graduation from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Taylor worked for a year in the Central Valley before having the privilege of joining Sierra Veterinary Care.

Dr. Taylor enjoys travel, partaking in various culinary pursuits, and spending quality time with family. She lives with her husband and two dogs.

  • Dr. Courtney Cook

Dr. Courtney Cook, a life-long resident of Northern California, knew that she wanted to become a veterinarian at the age of 10. As an undergraduate, Dr. Cook majored in Animal Science at UC Davis and also worked on campus at the School of Veterinary Medicine as an emergency receptionist and an assistant for the Microbiology lab; both aiding in her success at the school. Upon completion of her undergraduate work, Dr. Cook then attended the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, ranked #1 in our country. She earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in June of 2016. Since that time, she has been happily practicing at Sierra Veterinary Care and enjoying the benefits of living in the Sierra Nevadas.
